Costco raises membership fee in the US and Canada for the first time in seven years; post-market trading rises over 2%.

AASTOCKS ·  09:10

USA warehouse retailer Costco (COST.US) has raised its annual membership fee for the first time since June 2017. The annual fee for regular members in the United States and Canada has been raised from $60 to $65, and the annual fee for executive members has been raised from $120 to $130. However, the maximum annual rebate for executive members has been raised from the current $1,000 to $1,250. The new fees will take effect in September and are estimated to affect 52 million members, slightly more than half of whom are executive members.

Membership fees are one of Costco's main sources of revenue. Last year, membership fee revenue was about $4.6 billion, up 8% from 2022.

Costco closed at $884.31 on Wednesday, down 0.29%, but rose 2.5% after-hours.
