$Tesla (TSLA.US)$CEO Musk stated on social media platform X that the design of the company's second-generation humanoid robot, Optimus, will be completed later in 2024. Musk said that the new design is "special", but did not disclose any other details. Earlier this year, Musk said that the humanoid robot is still under development, but may be released by the end of next year.

It is reported that the second-generation Optimus first appeared on December 13th last year and its demonstration video appeared on social platform X. On July 4th, the second-generation Optimus officially debuted at the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2024). Reports pointed out that Tesla officials introduced that the walking speed of the second-generation Optimus has increased by 30% on the basis of walking upright; its fingers have also "evolved" to have perception and touch and can handle "eggs and heavy objects with ease."

Tesla previously stated that the second-generation Optimus will first be used in its manufacturing plants. Once its practicality is verified, the company will begin selling the robot. At last month's Tesla shareholder meeting, Musk stated that the Optimus robot will bring huge profits to the company, and starting from next year, Tesla will have over 1,000 or a few thousand Optimus robots working for the company. Musk further stated that humanoid robots could someday boost the company's market cap to $25 trillion.
