流媒体巨头挑战加拿大收入分成新规

Streaming media giants challenge new revenue sharing regulations in Canada.

Gelonghui Finance ·  13:24
On July 5th, Gelonghui reported that global streaming companies are challenging a new Canadian regulation that requires them to pay for local news. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) stated in June of this year that major online streaming services must use 5% of their Canadian revenue to support the domestic broadcasting system, including news production. The Canadian Film Association (MPA-Canada), representing companies such as Netflix, Disney, Paramount, and others, has applied to the federal court to allow appeals against this regulation and request a judicial review. Streaming companies stated in a legal document that CRTC believes requiring foreign online enterprises to contribute to news production is appropriate, but the decision does not reveal any basis for the conclusion. It is unreasonable for the CRTC to force foreign online enterprises to invest in news production. The regulatory agency previously stated that the regulation, which will take effect in September, will raise about 0.2 billion Canadian dollars (approximately US$0.146 billion) annually.
