Amazon (AMZN.US) will cooperate with the Australian government to develop cloud data systems to handle confidential information. The Australian government stated that this cooperation will increase Australia's network capabilities and deepen security cooperation with the USA.
Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles announced a partnership with Amazon's AWS at a press conference in Canberra, stating that the government will invest at least 2 billion Australian dollars in the new system over the next decade.
Under the agreement, Amazon will build three datacenters across Australia to store confidential data from Australian defense and intelligence institutions.
