The company said that Sentinel's full-stack automated driving software solution is different from other companies that develop software for autonomous driving robots taxis. The Sentinel solution enables auto manufacturers to accelerate the development of advanced automotive safety and autonomous driving functions. The new software suite includes active safety, perception, 3D mapping and positioning, simulation, and dynamic lidar capabilities. Luminar stated that the first products have been shipped this week and are planned to be delivered to top auto manufacturers in the third quarter of this year.
"Luminar's development focuses on providing the above feature toolkits for auto manufacturers, so as to achieve the next generation of safety and autonomous driving functions for consumer production vehicles. With the launch of Sentinel, our goal is to evaluate auto manufacturers' software development work and integrate it into software development work," the company said.
After the announcement, Luminar rose more than 7% at the beginning of the trading day as of the time of writing.
