According to IT Home on July 3, Sony plans to discontinue the production of consumer-level recordable Blu-ray discs, but it will still produce commercial Blu-ray disc products for areas such as games and movies. According to a report by Daily News on June 29, Sony plans to lay off 250 employees in Japan, who come from the "recording media business division", whose products include the Blu-ray discs used by PS5. Sony responded later that this layoff mainly affects consumer-grade Blu-ray discs. The discontinued recordable Blu-ray disc models include BD-RE (25GB), BD-RE DL (50GB), BD-RE XL (100GB), and BD-R XL (128GB).
