Xpeng said the Mona M03 is a good-looking and fun car for young people.
The M03, the first electric vehicle (EV) model from Xpeng's (NYSE: XPEV) new project codenamed Mona, will be unveiled in two days' time, after previous delays.
The Chinese EV maker announced today that it will give the Xpeng M03 its world debut on July 3, with a live video stream starting at 2 pm Beijing time that day.
Xpeng has put a lot of effort into building a good-looking and fun car for young people, the company wrote on Weibo today.
In announcing the acquisition of ride-hailing giant Didi Global's EV business on August 28, 2023, Xpeng said it planned to launch a new brand, codenamed Mona, in 2024.
Notably, Xpeng has since last month begun referring to Mona with a "new lineup", signaling that it is not a standalone brand.
The first model in the Mona project would be an A-class smart EV model to be launched in 2024, and the new model and brand would be distinct from Xpeng-branded products and the main brand, the company said last year.
He Xiaopeng, Xpeng's chairman and CEO, said on March 16 that the company would launch the new brand within the next month, targeting a market with prices ranging from RMB 100,000 ($13,790) to RMB 150,000.
At its AI Day event on May 20, Xpeng pushed back the unveiling of the first Mona model to June, although that didn't happen either.
Xpeng has been intensively warming up for the Mona M03 since last month, including announcing the model's wind resistance of 0.194 Cd, which is claimed to be the world's lowest wind-resistance production all-electric hatchback sedan.
On June 26, Xpeng said the Mona M03's trunk volume of 621 L is the largest in its class.
The model entered a model catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last month, setting the stage for its launch.
The Xpeng M03 measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,445 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, according to the June 13 filing.
The two variants in the catalog are single-motor models with peak motor power of 140 kW and 160 kW, respectively, and motor suppliers are Innovance Automotive, Physis Technology.
Like Nio's (NYSE: NIO) Onvo L60, both variants of the Xpeng M03 are powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries, both from BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) battery division FinDreams Battery.
The 140-kW variant of the Xpeng M03 is available in 1,661-kg and 1,631-kg versions, while the 160-kW variant weighs 1,739 kg. Both variants support a maximum speed of 155 km/h.
