The Nikkei Stock Average continued to rise, closing at 39,687.40 (+104.32 yen, +0.26%) with an estimated trading volume of 820 million shares on the previous business day. Although U.S. stocks fell last weekend, concerns about European political uncertainty eased as far-right parties did not make as much breakthroughs in the French lower house election as feared, and the Tokyo market opened with a buying bias. The Nikkei Stock Average expanded its gains close to the 40,000 yen level at one point, but after a round of morning buying, it fell into a quiet market. On the other hand, insurance stocks with large market capitalization were purchased, pushing the TOPIX to exceed the year-to-date high of 2,821.86 yen per day based on June 28th trading time and ending the morning trading session.
SoftBank Group ranked first in the rise contribution, followed by KDDI, which pushed up the Nikkei Stock Average by about 50 yen with two stocks. On the other hand, the top two contributors to the decline in the Nikkei Stock Average were Terumo and Laser Tech, which pushed down the index by about 35 yen with two stocks. The highest rising stock among Nikkei Stock Average constituent stocks was J. Front, which rose 12.76%, followed by Takashimaya, which rose 7.90%.
The top two contributors to the decline in the Nikkei Stock Average were Terumo and Laser Tech, which declined by 3.63% and 2.90%, respectivly. Laser Tech was also the top decliner in the Nikkei Stock Average constituent stocks.
