Rystad, an energy consulting firm, also emphasized this point in a report released earlier, estimating that by 2030, the electricity demand of data centers in the United States would be equal to that of Turkey. Chris Womack, executive chairman of another public utility company Southern, believes that the growth of power demand in data centers may be similar to the situation when air conditioners emerged in the 1980s. He estimates that 80% of the new power supply will come from renewable energy sources.
