The debate was held at the CNN headquarters studio in the United States. CNN conducted a public opinion poll of the audience after the debate. Most voters who watched the debate believed that Trump performed better than Biden, but most people also said that the debate had little effect on their choice of president.
This rapid poll was answered by 565 registered US voters who watched the TV debate. The results showed that 67% of people thought Trump performed better, and 33% of voters favored Biden.
Prior to the start of the debate, 55% of people expected Trump to outperform Biden, which means that even in the case of low external expectations, Biden's poor performance in the first debate still exceeded that of most people's expectations.
Among registered voters who watched the debate, 81% said that the debate had no impact on their choice of president, while 14% said that the debate made them reconsider, but did not change their minds. The remaining 5% said that the debate changed their mind about who to vote for.
From the poll results, the debate had little impact on Biden and Trump supporters, with 3% of each side saying that the debate changed their minds. However, among voters who had not yet decided or expressed their willingness to change their minds before the debate, 9% said that the debate changed their minds, and 25% were reconsidering.
Nearly 96% of Republican voters believed that Trump performed better in the debate, while only 69% of Democratic voters believed that Biden was the winner. This shows that Republicans have more confidence in Trump, while Democrats are not so optimistic about Biden.
After the debate, the opinion of voters who watched the debate on Biden declined. Now only 31% of people have a positive view of him, while before the debate this figure was 37%. In comparison, 43% of the audience has a positive view of Trump, which is slightly higher than the 40% before the debate.
