The tax-free limit for mainland residents to shop in Hong Kong and Macau has been raised. The Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Yang Runxiong, believes that the measure can boost the tourism atmosphere, and the authorities will do a good job in promotion and reception. Although the current tax exemption for Hainan Island tourists is up to 100,000 yuan, Hong Kong is different from other places in terms of tourist arrangements or regulations and will not make comparisons.
Executive Council member Lin Jianfeng expects that the number of mainland tourists visiting Hong Kong in the second half of the year will increase by 10% to 20%. He hopes that after the relevant arrangements are smoothed out, the tax exemption limit can be gradually raised.
