Toyota Tsusho Corporation (hereafter: Toyota Tsusho) has developed a system to send data acquired from the compact electrocardiograph “LOTUS HEART” (hereinafter: Lotus Heart) and Lotus Heart to an analysis center through a smartphone application and cloud service “LOTUS HEART Cloud”. The Lotus Heart is the first compact electrocardiograph in Japan that has a communication function and can analyze data from a remote location.
Full-scale provision of Lotus Heart services will begin in July, and atrial fibrillation that causes a stroke in cooperation with Fujita Health University Hospital (Toyoake City, Aichi Prefecture) and the Nagoya City Midori Ward Medical Association (Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture) in Midori-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi※1We will launch a community health project to detect suspected patients at an early stage.

1. backgrounds
One-third of strokes are cardiogenic stroke with “atrial fibrillation” as the main cause, and patients with atrial fibrillation have a 5 times higher risk of stroke compared to normal people※2It is said. On the other hand, atrial fibrillation often has no subjective symptoms, and the current situation is that it is difficult to detect “paroxysmal atrial fibrillation,” where symptoms disappear in a short time, at an early stage with only general tests. Long-term electrocardiogram monitoring is effective for early detection of atrial fibrillation, but current portable electrocardiographs have issues such as short measurement time, difficulty and discomfort in wearing, and time required to exchange analysis data.

2. About products and services
Since the measured electrocardiogram is automatically sent to the analysis center through a smartphone application and the cloud service “LOTUS HEART Cloud,” medical institutions do not need to send devices to analysis institutions, and by obtaining analysis reports from the web, efficient operation such as speedy diagnosis and various analyses using data is possible.

4. Initiatives utilizing Lotus Heart
From July, Toyota Tsusho will begin a regional health care project aimed at preventing stroke through early detection of atrial fibrillation in the Midori-ku district of Nagoya in collaboration with the Department of Stroke and Cardiology at Fujita Health University Hospital and the Nagoya City Midori-ku Medical Association.
The purpose of this project is for local medical institutions that are “primary care physicians” to detect potential atrial fibrillation patients at an early stage using Lotus Heart and connect them to appropriate treatment. The obtained data will be analyzed at Fujita Health University Hospital and will be used to verify the effects of the project and future preventive measures.
Going forward, through the development of Lotus Heart, Toyota Tsusho will expand such community health care efforts to medical institutions nationwide, aiming to contribute to early detection of atrial fibrillation in Japan and suppression of new cases of stroke patients.
By providing Lotus Hearts, Toyota Tsusho will support the extension of healthy life expectancy and promote the Economy of Life business that supports people's lives.
