After six months of trial operation of the "Rakuma appraisal service," the number of users has increased by about 2.3 times. Clarified user behavioral changes, such as a decrease in the occurrence rate of "out-of-standard" products that are suspected of being counterfeit.

Rakuten, Inc. (hereinafter "Rakuten"), which operates the flea market app "Rakuma" that is currently growing in popularity, has announced the results of a survey on "appraisal services for flea market apps."

On the "Rakuma appraisal service" (note 3), which provides users who purchase items with the service of inspecting (note 2) their items as needed, jointly provided by "KOMEHYO Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "KOMEHYO"), the number of users has increased about 2.3 times compared to November, December of last year and March, April of this year after comparison (note 4), and it has been found that the occurrence rate of items judged as "out-of-standard" with a suspected authenticity due to the inspection has been decreasing. This time, a survey on "appraisal services for flea market apps" was conducted on 3,717 "Rakuma" users, revealing changes in user behavior. In this survey, users were asked about appraisal services in general in flea market apps, not limited to the "Rakuma appraisal service," to investigate user awareness in the flea market app market as a whole.

■ Awareness of appraisal services in flea market apps is 49.2%
When asked about "awareness of appraisal services in flea market apps", about half of the users (49.2%) answered that they knew about it. As a result, it was found that half of the users were still unaware of appraisal services, suggesting that there is still room for further service expansion.

■ Users who "know" about appraisal services in flea market apps have had 12 points more experience purchasing luxury goods in flea markets than those who "don't know."
Next, we asked 1,827 users who answered "knowing" about flea market appraisal services and 1,890 users who answered "not knowing" about them about the places (shops) where they had purchased used luxury goods in the past. Among them, the users who answered "flea markets" were 54.6% for "knowing" and 42.6% for "not knowing," indicating that users who "know" about appraisal services have had 12 points more experience purchasing used luxury goods in flea markets than those who "don't know."

In addition, among those who answered that they had purchasing experience both in physical stores, e-commerce, etc. and "others," 18.1% answered "knowing" and 16.9% answered "not knowing." Furthermore, when asked why they did not purchase on flea market apps, those who "knew" answered that the most common reason was "cannot directly see the condition" (38.6%), while those who "did not know" answered that the most common reason was "concerns about counterfeit and imitation products" (37.2%).

■ The awareness of "appraisal services" leads to an awareness change when listing items; "I will refrain from posting suspicious items as much as possible" (about 31%) was the most common response.
Next, we asked users who answered "yes" to the question "Have you ever listed luxury goods on flea market apps?" if their listings were affected by becoming aware of the appraisal service provided by the flea market app. The most common response was "I will refrain from posting suspicious items as much as possible" (30.8%). This shows that the presence of an appraisal service has led to sellers being more careful about posting items. Furthermore, the second most common response was "I can list anything with peace of mind because it can be appraised" (26.0%), suggesting that the appraisal service has a positive effect on the sellers as well.
