Rain AI has hired a chip executive from Apple to lead its hardware engineering. This is the second executive hired by the start-up company this month, which is attempting to design new semiconductors for artificial intelligence.

According to the Wise News APP, Rain AI has hired a chip executive from Apple (AAPL.US) to lead hardware engineering. This is the second executive hired by the startup company this month, which is trying to design new semiconductors for artificial intelligence.

Jean Didier Allegrucci previously helped oversee the development of Intel (INTC.US) processors replacing in iPhone and Mac. Now he will lead Rain AI in developing more energy-efficient chips. He will work with Chief Architect Amin Firoozshahian, who came to this start-up company after working for five years at Meta (META.US).

Headquartered in San Francisco, Rain AI is one of the many startups that hope to develop new hardware for artificial intelligence platforms, backed by co-founders of OpenAI and Y Combinator. The company is exploring a technology known as memory computing, which mimics the way the human brain works and saves power by processing data where it is stored.

Rain AI has joined the ranks of Intel, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US) and Samsung Electronics (SSNLF.US) in researching memory computing, but still faces economic feasibility and environmental impact issues. However, in the long run, more efficient chips are essential for adding artificial intelligence to a wider range of devices.

Rain AI CEO William Passo said in a statement: "Our novel memory computing technology will help unleash the true potential of today's generative artificial intelligence models, bringing us one step closer to running the fastest, cheapest and most advanced artificial intelligence models."
