Ho Iat Seng pointed out that this is an important measure taken by the central government in response to the social demands of Macau. The increase in the tax exemption limit will help promote tourism consumption growth and promote community economy in Macau, benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises, including the retail industry, and helping the overall economic development of the Macau SAR to move forward steadily.

The Macau Government Tourist Office expresses its sincere thanks to the central government for once again launching measures to benefit Macau, which will help to enhance the willingness of mainland tourists to travel and consume in Macau, injecting vitality into Macau's tourism economy.

The Ministry of Finance, the General Administration of Customs, and the State Administration of Taxation announced today that for residents and tourists over 18 years of age entering Macau, personal luggage items obtained overseas and valued at no more than RMB 12,000 will be exempted from tax and clearance. At the same time, at ports with duty-free shops for inbound passengers, the above-mentioned passengers are allowed to purchase a certain quantity of duty-free goods at the port's duty-free shop, together with personal luggage items obtained overseas and valued at no more than RMB 15,000, which will also be exempted from tax and clearance. The above-mentioned measures will be implemented first at six ports such as Gongbei and the Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge from July 1, 2024; and will be promoted at all inbound ports (except for the Hengqin "First Line" Port) from August 1, 2024.
