On June 28th, Glonhui reported that after a mid-air panel explosion incident in January, Boeing faced new financial and production challenges, but this would not change their workers' willingness to strike for bargaining advantages. International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) represents more than 30,000 workers in Washington State who manufacture Boeing planes. They hope to receive better retirement benefits after years of stagnant income, and hope to receive a pay increase of more than 40% within three to four years. Jon Holden, president of US Labor Council 751, representing workers in the Seattle area, said, 'In any case, we will maximize this opportunity, and our members hope to reach an agreement. But if necessary, they are willing to strike.' IAM workers plan to vote to authorize a strike on July 17th, but they cannot strike before the contract expires on September 12th.
