On June 27, Gelunhui | Uber announced that it will pay $1,000 to 175 drivers in seven cities in the USA and Canada to not drive for five weeks and instead use other transportation as part of a promotional campaign called 'One Less Car.' Under the plan, Uber will select up to 175 eligible owners in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver to participate in the five-week program starting on July 22. The company stated that 'Based on the average monthly cost of car ownership in the USA, we will provide selected participants with $1,000 to use alternative transportation rather than relying on private cars. These options will include public transportation, car rental and sharing, as well as car-free transportation such as Lime electric bicycles and electric scooters that can be booked in Uber applications.'
