The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (00388.HK) announced that it will launch weekly Hang Seng Tech Index options on September 2, and the plan is still pending regulatory approval.

Weekly Hang Seng Tech Index options are options contracts that expire weekly, and will provide two sets of weekly contracts, the current week and the next week. In addition to weekly expiration, weekly Hang Seng Tech Index options are no different from cash-settled options contracts in general, designed to provide investors with tools for trading and risk management in response to short-term risks and specific events.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will provide a 50% trading fee discount for this product until further notice, and the product will also be exempt from SFC levies for the first six months after its launch.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange stated that since the launch of weekly Hang Seng Index options and weekly Hang Seng China Enterprises Index options in 2019, the average daily trading volume has increased from about 6,000 contracts in 2020 to over 19,000 contracts currently. It is expected that the launch of weekly Hang Seng Tech Index options and the planned launch of weekly stock options later this year will further enrich the Group's derivatives product portfolio and provide more short-term option choices for the market. The Hang Seng Tech Index derivatives product portfolio has become one of the most active product categories for trading since the launch of the futures contract in 2020, with the daily trading volume of futures contracts increasing from about 14,000 contracts in 2021 to over 116,000 contracts currently.
