According to the report of Sina Technology, internal sources from China Broadcasting during the 2024 MWC Shanghai revealed that China Broadcasting's 5G NR broadcasting has started device deployment and testing, striving for official commercial use next year, which enables people to watch television without using mobile data. Currently, China Broadcasting is working with equipment providers such as Huawei and ZTE (00763.HK); mobile phone manufacturers such as Vivo and OPPO; and mobile chip manufacturers such as Hisilicon and MediaTek to promote related projects together.

5G NR broadcasting uses the 5G method to transmit broadcasting and television signals through broadcasting and television transmission towers and mobile cellular base stations, enabling TV programs that could only be watched on TV before to be viewed through 5G terminals. Users do not need to change their existing core networks, base stations, and mobile terminal hardware, and do not need special hardware support, especially mobile phone chips. Only new drivers are needed to provide broadcasting and TV services, significantly reducing industry promotion costs and difficulties.

In addition, 5G NR broadcasting has realized a non-SIM card mode and cross-operator service. That is to say, when 5G NR broadcasting is officially commercialized, it can provide TV watching without using mobile data, and users from China Broadcasting and the other three major telecom operators can all use it.
