Due to declining production in many overseas markets, Toyota Motor's (TM.US) global production in May declined for the fourth consecutive month, with particularly significant declines in China where local brands are much stronger in competition.
Vehicle production in the month fell by 4% to 812,191 units. In China, production fell by 22%. In addition to strong models launched by local brands in China, the world's largest auto market is also in fierce competition.
Toyota's production in markets such as Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, and France also declined, but production in the United States and Japan increased.
Toyota Motor's global sales this month increased by only 0.3%, with growth in overseas markets such as the United States and Europe offsetting the decline in sales in Japan and China.
Both sales and production data include the deluxe brand Lexus.
