Rakuten Mobile has launched commercial service on the Platinum Band (700MHz band).
Rakuten Mobile, which is also known as the Platinum Band that operates in the 700 MHz band (note 1), received certification from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and we are delighted to announce that commercial services have been launched today on June 27.
Rakuten Mobile leverages its expertise in the construction of fully virtualized cloud-native mobile networks that are compatible with Open RAN, which it deploys nationwide on the 1.7 GHz band, to rapidly launch commercial services on the 700 MHz band (note 2). Going forward, we plan to sequentially expand our Platinum Band deployment through our self-constructed base stations, prioritizing filling the remaining coverage holes (note 3).
In addition to its 700 MHz base station deployment, Rakuten Mobile is working on a plan to expand the Rakuten Line 5G (Sub6) area in the Kanto region by up to 1.6 times that of January of the same year through relaxed interference adjustment conditions with satellite communications in the shared band, by 2024 (note 4). This initiative is complimented by upgrades to 5G (Sub6) base station software nationwide that could lead to significant improvements in 5G communication speed and stability, while also allowing for smoother switching between 4G and 5G through the optimalization of base station parameters (note 5). We are promoting various measures to improve communication quality, such as expanding and optimizing roaming line areas with the help of partners, advancing deployment of shared base stations in subways, railroads (between stations), railway tunnels, and underground shopping malls, as well as the continuous expansion of our self-constructed base stations (4G・5G).
In celebration of the launch of our commercial service today, we are running a Platinum Band launch campaign commemorating 700,000 lines. As part of this campaign, we will present 7,777 points to 77 customers who post and repost campaign posts after following our official Rakuten Mobile X account (note 6,7).
