According to data from the Macao Statistics and Census Service, there were a total of 143 hotels providing lodging services to the public in May this year, an increase of 13 compared to the previous year, with an increase of 9.3% to 47,000 rooms. The average occupancy rate of hotel rooms increased by 4.9 percentage points compared to the previous year, reaching 83.6%. Among them, the occupancy rates of five-star (85.3%) and four-star (79.7%) hotels increased by 6.4 and 2.6 percentage points respectively, while the occupancy rate of three-star hotels (80.8%) decreased by 0.2 percentage points.
The number of guests at hotel establishments in May increased by 8.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 1.196 million, which also represents a 3.3% increase from the same period in 2019. Mainland China (870,000) and international guests (88,000) increased by 9.7% and 66.1% respectively compared to the previous year.
In the first five months of this year, the average occupancy rate of hotel rooms in Macau increased by 7.7 percentage points compared to the previous year, reaching 84.3%, and the number of guests increased by 25% to 6.135 million, with an average length of stay of 1.7 nights.
The number of inbound tourists in Macau as part of a tour group in May this year was 242,000, an increase of 1.9 times compared to the previous year; the number of mainland Chinese tour groups increased by 1.7 times to 219,000, and the number of international tour groups increased by 5.2 times to 18,000. The number of inbound tourists as part of a tour group in the first five months of this year was 928,000, an increase of 2.3 times compared to the previous year; the number of mainland Chinese tour groups increased by 2 times to 828,000.
