According to data from the Statistics and Census Service of Macau, the number of inbound tourists in May this year increased by 21.6% annually to 2.692 million, recovering to 79.3% of the same period in 2019, and an increase of 3.5% monthly. However, the number of same-day visitors and overnight visitors increased by 27.2% and 15.9% annually last month respectively, with an average stay of 1.2 days, which was consistent with the same period last year. However, the average stay time of same-day visitors remained at 0.2 days, while that of overnight visitors increased by 0.1 days to 2.3 days.
In May, the number of mainland Chinese tourists increased by 25.9% to 1.856 million annually, and the number of individual tourists increased by 6.3%. The number of tourists in the nine cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area increased by 30.3%, while the number of Hong Kong tourists decreased by 3.3% to 582,000.
The number of inbound tourists in the first five months of this year has increased by 50.2% annually to nearly 14.169 million, recovering to 82.4% of the same period in 2019. However, the number of same-day visitors and overnight visitors increased by 67.1% and 34.5% annually respectively. The average stay of tourists was 1.2 days, a decrease of 0.1 days compared to the same period last year, and the average stay time of overnight visitors and same-day visitors was shortened by 0.1 days.
