In the afternoon, the Nikkei average started with a slight narrowing of the decline from the morning closing (38324.10 yen), trading at 38368.95 yen, down 201.81 yen from the previous day. During lunchtime, the Nikkei 225 futures were in a strong range between 38270 yen and 38410 yen. The dollar-yen exchange rate has been slightly weaker and higher since around 9 a.m., at 1 dollar = 158.10-20 yen. In the Asian market, the Shanghai Composite Index is down about 0.2% in a one-step-one-step between the previous day's closing price, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong has started to rise but has turned down about 0.4%.

In the afternoon session, the Tokyo market started with a slightly bullish tone compared to the morning closing. Although the morning Nikkei average fell, it has become a reassuring trend with a strong downside around 38300 yen. On the other hand, some investors are holding back from aggressive buying as they want to see the performance of the US stock market tonight after the holiday.
