As Samsung's first laptop equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge released on Tuesday is undoubtedly powerful. However, for gamers, getting their hands on the new machine can be somewhat annoying because the computer cannot even open League of Legends and Fortnite games.

On June 20th, Cai Lianshe (editor Xiao Xiang) reported that as Samsung's first laptop equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, the newly released Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge is undoubtedly powerful. However, for gamers, getting their hands on the new machine is somewhat uncomfortable: because this new laptop, dubbed by Samsung as the 'new generation AI laptop', cannot even open popular games, League of Legends and Fortnite. Product structure, 10-30 billion yuan products operating income of 401/1288/60 million yuan respectively.

Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday that its latest laptop has encountered some problems when running some software programs including many popular games.

Samsung has posted a notice on its Korean product website listing applications that it currently believes are incompatible or cannot be installed with this new laptop.

The list includes security programs for some local bank system software in South Korea, antivirus software and Adobe software, as well as many popular games such as 'League of Legends', 'Fortnite', and 'EA FC Online'.

Samsung did not give detailed reasons for these incompatibilities, but listed the laptop's running status related to Windows 11 Arm architecture and Qualcomm processors.

'We have asked the application developers to improve and will check the application improvement schedule to provide continuous updates,' Samsung said.

Is this an exclusive issue with Samsung or a common problem with AI PCs?

Analysts say that the above compatibility problems exposed by Samsung's new machine advance with some technology companies launching new AI computers and smartphones, and seeking challenges to remain compatible with existing software.

According to Samsung's official website, Galaxy Book4 Edge combines 45 TOPS NPU AI computing power with top-notch hybrid AI technology to bring users an unprecedented personal computer experience and the most efficient collaborative mobile AI ecosystem to date. Galaxy Book4 Edge also supports Microsoft's Copilot +, allowing users to use simple everyday language to improve work efficiency and creativity, thus changing the way users interact with their devices.

Galaxy Book4 Edge's Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor can bring 4 times higher AI computing performance than Galaxy Book4 Pro, making workflow more comprehensive and faster than ever. Its running Microsoft Windows 11 PC version uses the architecture technology of UK Arm Company.

Personal computers running Microsoft Windows systems have typically used Intel processors for decades. However, recently PC manufacturers, including some of Microsoft's own devices, have boasted that they use Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips. The once focused on smartphone chips Qualcomm has optimized its products to integrate AI capabilities, such as generating images and summarizing text without an internet connection.

In principle, switching to a new processor may cause some software compatibility issues, but it is uncertain whether this is the cause of the problem in this case.

Other PC brands are also using Snapdragon processors based on Arm architecture to power new models with AI capabilities. Since Samsung's Snapdragon X Elite new machine was released earlier, it is not yet clear whether other brands have encountered software compatibility issues reported by Samsung.

The term AI PC typically refers to a personal computer that can perform AI calculations using its internal hardware, rather than assigning tasks to dedicated computers in datacenters.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said earlier this month that it is expected that about 80% of personal computers will be AI PCs by 2028.
