Cathay Pac Air (00293.HK) announced passenger and cargo data for May 2024. In the first five months of 2024, Cathay Pac Air, together with Hong Kong Express, carried more than 10 million passengers, with a total of 11.2 million passengers carried.

Cathay Pac Air carried 1.6785 million passengers in May 2024, an increase of 18.4% from the same month last year. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) increased by 20.8% annually in the month. Passenger load factor decreased by 4.8 percentage points to 80.3%, while available seat kilometers (ASK) increased by 28% year-on-year. In the first five months of 2024, passenger traffic increased by 40.7% to 8.822 million passengers compared with the same period last year, with ASK rising by 45.7% and RPK up by 37.5%.

Cathay Pac Air carried 121,000 tons of cargo in May 2024, an increase of 10.2% from the same month last year. The cargo revenue ton-kilometers (RTK) increased by 3.8% annually in the month. Cargo load factor decreased by 2.1 percentage points to 59.4%, while available cargo ton kilometers (ACTK) increased by 7.5% year-on-year. In the first five months of 2024, cargo volume increased by 10.2% to 595,000 tons compared with the same period last year, with ACTK increasing by 11.8% and RTK up by 4.4%.

Lixin Liu, Group Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, said that passenger demand in May was as expected, with a slight recovery compared to the previous months, especially for short-haul routes. As there was no long weekend holiday in Hong Kong during the month, strong leisure travel demand driven by several holidays in April reduced passenger traffic by 4% compared to the previous month, but still increased by 18% compared to the same period last year.
