Nio Onvo L60 to Be Launched on Sept 10, Report Says

CnEVPost ·  Jun 19 18:55

Nio officially launched the Onvo brand on May 15, and began pre-sales of the Onvo L60 with a price of RMB 219,900 ($30,300).

The L60, the first model from Nio's (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo (Ledao in China), will be officially launched on September 10, local media outlet Internet Info Agency said in a report today.

The report doesn't mention the source of the information, or anything new.

Nio officially launched the Onvo brand on May 15, and began pre-sales of the Onvo L60 at that time, with a pre-sale price of RMB 219,900 ($30,300).

The electric vehicle (EV) maker said at the time that the official launch and delivery of the Onvo L60 would take place in September, but did not mention a specific date.

Onvo is derived from "On Voyage," and its Chinese name "Ledao" translates to "Path to Happiness," focusing on the family.

The Onvo L60 is based on a 900 V high-voltage architecture, with higher voltages resulting in higher energy efficiency, according to the new brand.

The model has the lowest wind resistance of any production SUV in the world at 0.229 Cd, giving it an energy consumption of just 12.1 kWh per 100 km, Onvo previously said.

The Onvo L60's pre-sale price is exactly RMB 30,000 less than the Tesla Model Y's current starting price in China, aiming to target potential Tesla customers.

The Model Y is one of the world's best-selling models and is also popular in China.

In the January-May period, the Model Y sold 166,707 units in China, up 9.34 percent year-on-year, contributing to 76.1 percent of Tesla's sales in China in the same period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

When the Onvo brand was stilled referred to under the internal codename of Alps earlier this year in March, Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li said at a user communication event that those hoping to buy a Model Y could wait a bit, and that Alps' first model would certainly be cheaper and better than it.

Alps' first model will support battery swap, and it will charge faster and have a bigger screen, Li said at the time.

The Onvo L60 entered a model catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology last week, setting the stage for its launch.

The model measures 4,828 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,616 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, according to the filing.

The two variants in the catalog are single-motor and dual-motor models, respectively, and both use lithium iron phosphate batteries from FinDreams Battery, the battery division of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY).

The Onvo L60's filing pages don't mention information about the battery's capacity.

The single-motor version of the model is powered by a rear motor with a peak power of 240 kW and supports a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

The dual-motor variant of the Onvo L60 has an additional front motor with a peak power of 100 kW and supports a top speed of 203 kilometers per hour.
