On June 19, Glone Daily reported that Johnson & Johnson is facing a new class action lawsuit, represented by female plaintiffs who have been diagnosed with or may develop cancer in the future, and are seeking compensation and medical monitoring. These cancers are allegedly caused by the company's baby powder and other talc products. The proposed lawsuit group may include thousands of women, but not the 61,000+ who have already filed personal injury lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson's talcum powder, claiming that it contains carcinogenic asbestos. Johnson & Johnson maintains that its talc is safe, asbestos-free, and does not cause cancer. The law firm behind this new case opposes Johnson & Johnson's proposed $6.48 billion pre-packaged bankruptcy plan to settle almost all of the claims against its talc, and is pursuing separate class action lawsuits seeking a court order to block the bankruptcy.
