Insiders At EPAM Systems Sold US$13m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Jun 18 19:02

Over the past year, many EPAM Systems, Inc. (NYSE:EPAM) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EPAM Systems

The Co-Founder, Arkadiy Dobkin, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$9.1m worth of shares at a price of US$307 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$174. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership Of EPAM Systems

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. EPAM Systems insiders own about US$324m worth of shares (which is 3.1% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
