Hong Kong and China Gas (00003.HK) announced that it has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Tsz Kwan Engineering Limited, a joint venture of Wiliersha, and will jointly develop the first "green hydrogen" project in Hong Kong, which will be expanded in part at the Tseung Kwan O New Territories Southeast Landfill.
According to reports, the project was approved to start by the Hydrogen Energy Interdepartmental Working Group led by the Environmental and Ecological Department in March this year, and is expected to be put into operation in 2025. The two parties will cooperate to use biogas to produce green hydrogen and promote different application scenarios for hydrogen energy, achieving waste-to-energy. The first locally-made green hydrogen will be available next year.
Hong Kong and China Gas revealed that the "Green Hydrogen" project is the first application of this technology in Hong Kong, and is expected to produce about 330 kilograms of hydrogen per day, enough to supply 7 to 8 hydrogen-powered buses for one day. (js / cy)
