In the afternoon session, the Nikkei Average started with a slightly smaller increase from the morning session (38504.11 yen) at 38424.94 yen, up 322.50 yen from the previous day. During the lunchtime, the Nikkei 225 futures were slightly weaker in the range of 38370 yen to 38470 yen. The dollar-yen exchange rate is almost the same as at 9 a.m. at 1 dollar = 157.60-70 yen. In Asia, after the Shanghai Composite Index began near its previous day's closing level, it moved steadily and has risen about 0.3%, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong, though roughly in the positive territory, has been weighed down by resistance and has risen about 0.1%.
