On June 18th, Guolonghui reported that the United Auto Workers Union stated on Monday that union members of the joint venture Ultium Cells, between General Motors and LG new energy in Lordstown, Ohio, have voted to approve a new labor agreement. About 98% of the vote supported the new agreement, which includes a 30% wage increase for many workers over three years and a $3,000 ratification bonus. As automakers shift to producing electric vehicles, their battery factories have become a focus of the union's attention. The UAW hopes the Ultium agreement will set a new precedent for the battery factories that will soon be established in the United States and throughout the electric vehicle industry. By October 2027, hourly wages for Ultium production workers will reach $35, a 112% increase from before joining the UAW.
