In order to comply with Macau's 1+4 economic moderately diversified development strategy, the government has selected a state-owned land area of 94,000 square meters in the Cotai area as a temporary outdoor performance area. The performance area is located at the intersection of Avenida do Aeroporto and Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano, with Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano to the north and Avenida do Aeroporto (the open space between Hotel Lisboa and Grand Lisboa) to the northeast. It is expected to accommodate about 50,000 spectators and provide excellent conditions for large outdoor performances in Macau in the future, attracting internationally renowned performances to settle in Macau.
The Macau government pointed out that Macau has world-class comprehensive resort and leisure facilities and performing arts hardware. In recent years, various large-scale performing arts activities have been held in Macau. In addition to indoor venues, the industry also has demand for large outdoor performance venues. At present, multiple departments of the Special Administrative Region government are preparing for the design and engineering bidding for the performance area, and the Macau outdoor performance area is scheduled to be put into use in 2025.
The Macau outdoor performance area will have basic facilities and supporting equipment for large-scale performing arts activities, leveraging the advantages of the newly-built venue, introducing internationally renowned performing arts programs, and attracting institutions from home and abroad that plan large-scale outdoor cultural festivals, performing arts programs, and touring activities to hold international performances in Macau.
