Elon Musk, a billionaire and founder of multiple technology companies, predicts that phones will become obsolete in the future and will be replaced by chips directly implanted into the brain.
On Sunday (June 17th), a high-profile similarity of Musk's account named "Not Elon Musk" posted a message asking, "Would you install a Neuralink interface in your brain to control your new X phone with your thoughts?" Musk responded by saying, "There will be no more phones in the future, only Neuralink."
In late January of this year, Elon Musk's brain-computer interface company Neuralink conducted its first brain chip implantation experiment. It is reported that the first paralyzed test participant, Noland Arbaugh, could control the cursor on a computer screen using implanted devices through neural connections, giving him the ability to operate a computer with his mind.
However, a month after the surgery, the implanted device no longer worked as before. Most of the electrodes implanted in Noland's brain had come loose and would no longer convert his thoughts into the electrical signals needed for cursor movement. Neuralink subsequently modified the software to help Noland regain many of the device's functions.
According to media reports, the FDA has approved Neuralink's application to implant brain chips into the brain of a second test subject, and the trial will take place at some point in June.
At present, more than 1,000 paralyzed patients are willing to participate in Neuralink's trials, but less than 100 patients qualify for this study. The company plans to implant chips in more than 22,000 people by 2030.
Neuralink announced at a press conference last year that its PRIME project aims to develop a "fully implanted, wireless brain-computer interface" that will initially give people the ability to control computer cursors or keyboards with their thoughts, paving the way for revolutionary treatments for a variety of physical disabilities (such as paralysis and blindness) as well as illnesses such as obesity, autism, depression, and schizophrenia.

As for the X phone mentioned above, it stems from Musk's concerns about Apple's AI privacy issues. At this month's Apple WWDC 2024 conference, Apple announced a deep partnership with OpenAI, and the latest GPT-4o model will be fully integrated into the Siri feature of Apple, but Musk claims this will lead to data leakage. He also said that once Apple integrates GPT into the operating system, he will ban Apple devices from entering his company.
In response to this, Musk's fans suggested that he create a phone of his own, so he wouldn't have to worry about information security, and they proposed naming the phone "XPhone" or "TeslaPhone"!
