On June 17th, Guolonghui reported that the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom revealed on Monday that they have sought government approval to bring criminal charges against former employees of Glencore. This marks the first time that relevant institutions have promised to criminally convict individuals after Glencore's large-scale bribery in 2022. Although the Serious Fraud Office did not specify the number of people charged, they have applied to the office of the Justice Secretary for approval of specific charges and are expected to bring the defendants to court as early as September. Previously, Glencore had admitted to bribing government officials in multiple African countries to obtain oil goods, and was fined 276 million pounds by a London judge. The long-term investigation by the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom showed that the company carried out seven bribery acts in five countries including Nigeria and Cameroon, involving amounts exceeding 28 million US dollars, with a time span from 2011 to 2016.
