EchoStar Insider Ups Holding During Year

Simply Wall St ·  Jun 17 19:41

Looking at EchoStar Corporation's (NASDAQ:SATS ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

EchoStar Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Director James DeFranco made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.5m worth of shares at a price of US$13.48 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$17.44. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

James DeFranco bought 200.00k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$13.36. Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. EchoStar insiders own about US$957m worth of shares (which is 20% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The EchoStar Insider Transactions Indicate?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening.
