北海道千歳エリアにおけるグリーン水素供給に向けた共同検討について

About the joint study on the supply of green hydrogen in the Chitose area of Hokkaido.

Mitsubishi ·  Jun 16 23:00
Mitsubishi Corporation, Takasago Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Ltd., and Air Water Hokkaido Co., Ltd. have signed an agreement regarding joint studies (referred to as the “Studies”) toward green hydrogen supply in the Chitose area of Hokkaido, and we would like to notify you of this.
Hydrogen is an important energy source for achieving carbon neutrality, as it can be produced from various energy sources including electricity and emits no CO2 during combustion. The establishment of a hydrogen production and supply system in Japan is considered important from the perspective of energy policy, as stipulated in the revised “Basic Hydrogen Strategy” released by the Japanese government in June 2023. In addition, hydrogen is expected to be utilized not only as a fuel, but also as a raw material for chemicals such as ammonia and methanol, and is therefore anticipated in a wide range of industries.
The Chitose area, where the four companies aim to start business operations, has New Chitose Airport, which is the gateway to the skies of Hokkaido, and an industrial park with various companies. In addition, there is expected to be demand for green hydrogen as a decarbonization measure, as the location has been decided for the mass production of next-generation semiconductors. Furthermore, on February 7, 2022, Chitose City declared itself a “Zero Carbon City” and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by promoting the local production and consumption of green hydrogen.
On May 31, 2024, the “Infrastructure Development Investigation for Green Hydrogen Supply in Chitose City and Coordination with Other Bases in Hokkaido, which Envisages Cooperation with Related Municipalities” project related to the Studies was adopted as a subject of the “Subsidy Program for Promoting Introduction of Non-Fossil Energy-Based Energies” (hydrogen and other supply infrastructure development projects) by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. Based on the agreement, the four companies will proceed with verifying the optimal supply method, such as the examination of water hydrogen production and storage site candidate locations, and transportation methods, by considering the needs of demanders for the local consumption of green hydrogen.
With the cooperation of Hokkaido, Chitose City, and demand-side companies, a hydrogen base will be established by 2030 by cooperating with related municipalities, and the green hydrogen supply chain will be realized by promoting coordination with other locations as well as in the Chitose area.
