According to an email seen by Bitcoin Magazine, Ro Khanna, US Congressman from the 17th district of California, will host a Bitcoin and Blockchain roundtable in early July. The meeting invites US President Biden, US Congressional officials and Wall Street leaders to discuss how to restrict blockchain innovation within the United States.

The Khanna office describes the upcoming Bitcoin roundtable as "the most important meeting so far between policymakers and innovation leaders in the field of blockchain".

According to the email, it is expected that the roundtable will invite officials from the Biden administration, the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as US businessman Mark Cuban to attend, with the main goal being to develop a strategy for "keeping bitcoin and blockchain innovation in the US".

The move is seen as a response to former US President Trump's recent support for the bitcoin industry. Trump recently became the first president to accept lightning payments for campaign donations.

Trump promised to "end Biden's war on cryptocurrencies" and ensure that the future of bitcoin and cryptocurrency is created in the United States.

Earlier this week, Trump also held a roundtable with some of America's largest bitcoin miners at the Mar-a-Lago estate and promised to support bitcoin mining on both the Washington, DC stage and the global stage.

For the past four years, the Biden administration has been hostile to the bitcoin and cryptocurrency industry.

Recently, on May 31, President Biden vetoed legislation allowing heavily regulated financial institutions to host bitcoin and cryptocurrency custody.

In April of this year, the US Department of Justice also arrested the founder and CEO of well-known bitcoin mixing service Samourai Wallet on charges of money laundering.

In May 2023, Biden likened cryptocurrency traders to "rich tax evaders".

In March of the same year, his administration issued an economic report that heavily criticized bitcoin and proof-of-work mining while promoting central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

The Biden administration also proposed a 30% tax on electricity used for bitcoin mining, calling it an obstacle to transitioning to a low-emission energy future.

The upcoming roundtable marks a shift in Washington's attitude towards the cryptocurrency industry, and given Khanna's party affiliation, this may represent a rise in Democratic sentiment.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Biden administration is in talks to accept cryptocurrency donations through Coinbase Commerce, a move that Trump also started with Coinbase. #US election#
