On June 16th, Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg Technology reporter and well-known Apple informant, reported that Apple plans to gradually roll out its intelligent features in the coming months to avoid problems encountered by other AI systems.
Specifically, Apple's intelligent services will be available for trial to developers later this summer, which means that it will not be included in the first beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. When the new operating system is finally launched in the fall, the AI features will appear in the form of a preview version, only supporting some of Apple's devices and only for use in the US English language region. In some cases, users may also need to join a waiting list to experience new features.

The beta version of iOS 18 only includes intelligent features such as voice recording transcription, improved voice mail transcription, and automatic calculation of input mathematics equations.
In the preview version set to be released at the end of 2024 (expected in the fall), Apple's intelligence will include multiple features such as AI priority sorting notifications, quick review reminders and messages, webpage summaries, voice memos, meeting records, and email summaries, as well as new writing tools, image generation, and custom AI emoticons Genmoji.
Integration with ChatGPT may be ready by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Siri's major update is expected in 2025, including contextual information retrieval and action on the device (e.g. finding flight landing times based on previous text conversations and emails), semantic indexing to help Siri understand the context of content and personal data on the device, precise control of devices and applications (e.g. editing and sending photos with simple commands), and screen-aware capabilities so that Siri can understand what you are doing at any given time on the device and take action.
Apple's intelligent support for other languages and regions is expected to be available by 2025.
Although Apple fans eagerly anticipate new features, the step-by-step approach brings multiple benefits:
Avoid personnel configuration bottlenecks: the company can allocate engineers for specific functions, release technology after completion, and then transfer personnel to other tasks.
Orderly implementation of multi-language support: priority support for US English allows Apple more time to train its AI models in multiple languages. Although global coverage will take several years, a longer development cycle will mean more stable functionality when it launches.
Strengthen cloud infrastructure: Apple is still strengthening its cloud service infrastructure, including deploying Mac-level chips on servers to support Apple's intelligent features. Apple doesn't want to risk having too many users test new features at the same time, causing network crashes, and partner OpenAI will also be better able to handle user surges.
Limit the spread of misinformation: AI may output inaccurate or meaningless information, and starting with a smaller user group can limit the spread of erroneous information and allow Apple and its partners to fix issues before widespread rollout.
