According to the news from the Securities Times APP, Microsoft(MSFT.US) plans to invest 6.69 billion euros (7.16 billion US dollars) to develop new datacenters in Aragon, northeastern Spain. The Aragon regional government stated that Microsoft has applied for a construction permit to build a datacenter outside of the Zaragoza city, confirming the report from local newspaper ElHeraldo. It is reported that Microsoft's investment will be carried out over 10 years.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Previously, in May, Amazon(AMZN.US) announced plans to invest 15.7 billion euros (about 17 billion US dollars) in Spain to expand its cloud computing infrastructure by building datacenters in the country. Amazon AWS stated that it will expand its local cloud computing infrastructure with the help of the Aragon regional government.
