Have Agilent Technologies Insiders Been Selling Stock?

Simply Wall St ·  Jun 14 18:47

Some Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:A) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Senior Vice President of Human Resources & Global Communications, Dominique Grau, recently sold a substantial US$2.0m worth of stock at a price of US$133 per share. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 16%, which is notable but not too bad.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Agilent Technologies

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Senior VP and President of Order Fulfillment & Supply Chain, Henrik Ancher-Jensen, sold US$2.0m worth of shares at a price of US$138 per share. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$131. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

In the last year Agilent Technologies insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Agilent Technologies insiders own about US$108m worth of shares (which is 0.3% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Agilent Technologies Insider Transactions Indicate?

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
