On June 13th, Guolonghui reported that the largest oil trading group in the United States, including Exxon Mobil and Chevron, filed a lawsuit with the Washington D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, seeking to block the Biden administration's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars and light trucks and encourage the manufacture of electric cars. In March, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new tailpipe emission regulations that will force U.S. auto manufacturers to produce and sell more electric cars to meet the new standards. Under the regulation, the government expects electric vehicles to account for 56% of total vehicle sales between 2030 and 2032. The American Petroleum Institute (API) said that the EPA's rule exceeded the authority of Congress and would phase out most new gasoline cars and traditional hybrid vehicles from the U.S. market in less than a decade. Ryan Meyers, executive vice president and general counsel of API, said that we are taking action to protect American consumers, manufacturing workers, and energy security from the effects of this authorization.
