American Express announced that it has established a acquiring institution partnership with KPay Merchant Service Limited (KPay), a financial technology start-up, to jointly develop the local small and medium-sized merchant market in Hong Kong and further expand American Express's merchant network in the SAR.

The partnership between American Express and KPay will enable American Express card members to consume at more merchants in Hong Kong. Since 2017, the total number of merchants worldwide accepting American Express cards has reached 89 million, more than double; among them, the company has also increased the number of merchants accepting American Express cards in Hong Kong by 10,000 between 2020 and 2023.
