Amrita Sen, founder of Energy Aspects, a third-party energy research and advisory firm, said that if global demand does not increase, OPEC+ members may not need to increase oil production later this year.
According to the Futu Securities News APP, Amrita Sen, founder of Energy Aspects, a third-party energy research and advisory firm, said that if global demand does not increase, OPEC+ members may not need to increase oil production later this year.
Under the leadership of Saudi Arabia, OPEC and its partners announced a plan earlier this month to gradually restore approximately 2 million barrels per day of suspended production capacity starting in October. Sen said at a conference in Calgary that these plans are dependent on market conditions. She pointed out that OPEC may not need to increase production at this time.
"If the market doesn't need oil, they won't increase production," she said. "If demand recovers, they will do so. If demand doesn't recover, I don't think they will resume production."
Sen said that global oil demand will increase by 1.1 million barrels per day this year. She pointed out that the demand in countries such as the United States has remained sluggish, but the demand in China may recover from the end of this year to next.
She said that by the end of the year, US crude oil production will increase by 400,000 barrels per day, and it will also increase by a similar amount next year. Including other liquid hydrocarbons, this number will increase to 700,000 barrels per day.
After a recent series of oil company acquisitions of US energy assets, growth will slow down. "This is a kind of integration," she said, and by 2030, "you will see slower but stable growth."
