Indian consumer inflation fell from 4.83% last month to 4.67% in May 2024, below market expectations, creating the slowest consumer price increase in the coming year, data from the Ministry of Statistics and Planning Implementation (MOSPI) showed.

Prices for housing (2.56%), clothing and footwear (2.74%) eased, while food prices (8.69%) rose steadily. On the other hand, the tightening in the supply of fuels and lighting (minus 3.83%) has weakened.

Indian consumer prices rose 0.48% compared to the previous month, rising for the second month in a row.
