Japan's papermaking company has received an order for steam turbine power generation equipment.

KAWASAKI Heavy Industries ·  Jun 5 23:00

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has received an order for steam turbine power generation equipment for Japan Paper Corporation's Soka plant. The power generation output of this equipment is 5.5 MW and it is scheduled to start operation in September 2025.

The equipment received this time is an update from the exhaust gas recovery turbine that we delivered in 2002 to an exhaust back-pressure turbine. By sending all the exhaust (steam) from the steam turbine to the papermaking process within the factory and adjacent facilities of the Japan Paper Group, it achieves the optimal energy balance of heat and electricity and contributes to energy conservation and decarbonization throughout the group.* 1,2This order was highly evaluated overall for our operating performance of over 20 years and our response with after-sales services, as well as proposals in response to changes in energy balance.※3Since starting production of steam turbines for power generation in 1956, we have a track record of delivery to a diverse range of customers such as domestic and international power companies, biomass power plants, self-generation facilities for paper, cement, petrochemicals and waste incineration power plants.

Going forward, we will actively work to improve product technology and strengthen plant engineering capabilities, accurately respond to diverse market needs, and contribute to achieving stable energy supply, reducing environmental impact, promoting a circular economy and realizing a low-carbon and decarbonized society.

*3 Back-pressure style is a method of reusing steam exhaust (steam) from the steam turbine in the process. It is generally adopted in steam turbine power generation equipment for customers with high steam demand.

  1. *2 In the case of a condensing turbine, the exhaust (steam) of the steam turbine is cooled (condensed) by a condenser to increase the output of the steam turbine power generation equipment. It is generally adopted in steam turbine power generation equipment for customers with high electricity demand.
  2. *1 Exhaust is the process of taking the steam appropriate for the process from the intermediate stage of the steam turbine.
