On November 14, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange disclosed the prospectus documents submitted by Alibaba on its official website on the 13th. The documents also revealed the revenue situation of Alibaba Cloud, a cloud computing business owned by Alibaba. It has grown rapidly in the past three years, but there is still quite a gap compared to cloud computing giant Amazon.

According to data disclosed by Alibaba, in the year ending March 31, 2017 (that is, Alibaba's 2017 fiscal year), Alibaba Cloud's revenue was 6.663 billion yuan, and the following year it increased to 13.39 billion yuan, an increase of 100.96% over the previous year.

For the year ending March 31 this year, Alibaba Cloud's revenue was 24.702 billion yuan, up 84.48% from the previous year.

In the second quarter of this year, Alibaba Cloud's revenue was 7.787 billion yuan, an increase of 3,089 billion yuan over the same period in 2018, an increase of 65.75% over the same period in 2018.

Although Alibaba Cloud's revenue has grown rapidly in the last three years and is currently maintaining a good growth momentum, there is still a big gap between Alibaba Cloud and cloud computing giant Amazon.

Judging from the financial report published by Amazon, in the year ending March 31, 2017, the revenue of its cloud computing business was 13.314 billion US dollars, the following year was 19.239 billion US dollars, and the year ending March 31 this year was 27.91 billion US dollars.

Converted to RMB at the current exchange rate, the revenue of Amazon's cloud computing business for the three years was 93.396 billion yuan, 134.96 billion yuan, and 195.786 billion yuan, respectively, 14 times, 10.08 times, and 7.93 times Alibaba Cloud's revenue for the same period.

In the second quarter of this year, the revenue of Amazon's cloud computing business was US$8.381 billion, which is 7.39 times that of Alibaba Cloud's US$1,134 billion during the same period.

However, with the rapid increase in Alibaba Cloud's revenue, the gap between Alibaba Cloud and Amazon in the cloud computing business is still gradually narrowing. This is reflected in the fact that the gap multiplier between the two companies' cloud computing business revenue has narrowed year by year.
