In the New York foreign exchange market on the 5th, the dollar-yen rate fell to 155.72 yen, then rose to 156.48 yen and closed at 156.13 yen. Dollar selling was dominant, as the May ADP employment statistics in the United States fell below expectations and served as new evidence that the US labor market was slowing down. Then, the U.S. May ISM non-manufacturing business activity index, which exceeded expectations, reignited dollar buying. The euro-dollar rate rose to 1.0891 dollars, then fell to 1.0854 dollars and closed at 1.0869 dollars.
