The US stock market was mixed on the 3rd. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 38,571.03, down 115.29 dollars (-0.30%), the Nasdaq rose 93.65 points (+0.56%) to 16,828.67, and the S&P 500 rose 5.89 points (+0.11%) to 5,283.40. The May ISM Manufacturing Index unexpectedly worsened, and payment prices fell, leading to buying on expectations of interest rate cuts, causing a rise in the opening. Although US stocks were mixed, the Tokyo market opened with selling pressure due to concerns about a sudden shift to higher yen due to a temporarily high exchange rate of 1 dollar and 55 yen compared to the previous day's closing. The Nikkei average was seen widening to a decline of over 300 yen at one point. After one round of selling, the 25-day moving average line of 38,552 yen, which is the lower support line, was noted, and the decline stopped, but it remained in the negative territory throughout the session.
The closing Nikkei average was 38,837.46 yen, down 85.57 yen (-0.22%) from the previous day. The trading volume on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market was 1.7486 billion shares and the turnover was 4.27 trillion yen. In terms of industry, mining, petroleum and coal products, insurance, electric power and gas business, and banking business declined, while other products, services, real estate, air transportation, warehouse and transportation-related businesses rose. The number of rising stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market is 48%, while the number of falling stocks is 48%.
First Retail <9983> was the top contributor to the decline, pushing down the Nikkei average by about 41 yen with one stock. Laser Tech <6920> ranked second, followed by Softbank G <9984>, Terumo <4543>, Mitsui & Co. <8031>, Honda <7267>, and Nippon Electric <6988>, among others.
On the other hand, the top contributor to the increase was TDK <8035>, which pushed up the Nikkei average by about 24 yen with one stock. Recruit HD <6098> ranked second, followed by TDK <6762>, Sony G <6758>, Yamaha <7951>, Nissan Chemical <4021>, and Nexon <3659>, among others.
