Toyota Motor Corporation announced on June 3 that it investigated its model certification application on January 26 this year in accordance with instructions from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Although the investigation is still ongoing, the test methods for seven models (including some models that have been discontinued since 2014) did not meet government standards. The company reported the situation to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on May 31. The model certification application in question involved insufficient pedestrian and passenger protection test data for three mass-produced models (Corolla Fielder/Axio and YarisCross) and errors in crash tests and other test methods for four discontinued models (Crown, Isis, Sienta, and RX). In the announcement, Toyota Motor Company apologized and stated that there are no performance issues in violation of laws and regulations in the relevant vehicles, so there is no need to stop using the affected vehicles, but it will temporarily stop shipping and sales of the three models currently produced in Japan from now on.
